Capturing in adobe premiere?
Hello all,
I’m trying to figure out if we can facility the switch to adobe premiere from final cut. I try looking everywhere to see if this question is answered to no luck.if you have the proper card (example aja kona 3) can you direct capture to prores with timecode from a camera in premiere?
If anyone has a kona 3 and cs6 can you please let me know. I would test it, but our hardware is too old to support the updated driver that makes kona work in cs6 (so i’m told).
I need to know the answer to that question. It is a workflow solution to our shop. We record xdcam cameras, and to by pass the codec, record in fcp 7 to the fusion drives. I’m trying to see if i can make the workflow as similar as possible in premiere.

You’ll most likely be using “capture without control” which means you have to hit record in Premiere and operate the camera/tape deck independently.

We switched to CS 5.5 at the beginning of the year then upgraded to CS 6.
A lot of us still use Final Cut Pro for capturing and laying back to tape, because
it’s simply easier that way. -
That is strange. I wonder if ProRes is supported in something like Blackmagic Media Express, the software that captures directly from decklink cards or if it’s the same issue there as well.

We have the Blackmagic thuderbolt I/O and we can’t capture prores in Premiere. You can get prores out of the Blackmagic Media Express and I’d guess the Aja’s own capture program can do it too.

I am having difficulty capturing with Blackmagic Decklink SDI in Premiere 5.5. I do not see the presets for creating a Blackmagic timeline. In PP capture I only have options for DV and HDV. I am using the capture in Media Express 3.0 and then importing the uncompressed .avi into a Premiere timeline. How do I get PP to see the decklink, which is working? Maybe my Blackmagic drivers are in the wrong directory? Any help is most appreciated.

I have both Aja Kona and Blackmagic cards installed in Macs with Premiere and FCP on both machines. I find it most convenient to use the AJA or BM capture application (both free) to capture to almost any codec I desire. Media Express comes with the BM software and works only when BM hardware is installed.

If you have tape matieral, say Sony HDcam how do you capture the tape in preimere pro and lay it back off? what format do you use?thanks

File -> Capture, File -> Export -> Tape
There aren’t a lot of format options with Blackmagic but the uncompressed quicktime files look pretty good.

Right now tape capture is a very touchy subject for us in CS6. We just can’t get it working well at all.
We have AJA Kona boards installed across our entire facility. Both tape capture and tape layback don’t work right now within Premiere Pro.
We have one BlackMagic Decklink Extreme 3D card in our Resolve system and that card can perfectly lay back to tape. Both Assemble and Insert edits. We have NOT tried to capture with it.
We do one of two things when we have to capture tape.
Use FCP 7 for batch captures.
Use our AJA KiPro for individual / full tape captures.
