  Premiere Pro CS5.5 crashing – any ideas?

  Hi there,

  Posted this in the Basic Premiere Pro forum but didn’t get any response, so trying here.

  Just bought a new Mac tower and have installed my Adobe suite – CS5.5.

  Was really looking forward to the performance boost. Photoshop and After Effects work really quickly, by comparison to my old machine… but Premiere is really disappointing me.

  It just keeps crashing, on really simple stuff – just basic cuts. Not sure why it would do this. I use Premiere on my laptop, and it crashes every now and then, but on my desktop (which is far more powerful) it crashes pretty much every single time I use it.

  Why? Does anyone have any ideas?

  My Mac is a 3.2 GHz Quad Core Intel Xeon, with 6GB (1066MHz DDR3) RAM
  and an ATI Radeon 5770 1024MB graphics card, running Max OSX Lion 10.7.4.

  Would love some help as I edit all the time, and all the crashing is starting to drive me mad.

  For one that’s not really enough ram to run it smoothly.
  minimum should be 16gb.

  Do you have a fast storage system?
  Editing from a single drive can be problematic.

  Thanks for replying.

  I know I’m pretty low on RAM for PPro. Was just hoping to get by on my measly 6GB for now. Do you think that would be the cause?

  If so, I’ll just blow my budget and max out on RAM – be worth not having the frustration.

  As for drive management, my PPro project and all my footage live together on an internal drive, separate from the system drive.

  Perhaps I should have the PPro project on the system drive and the footage on the separate internal drive. Do you think that would work out better?

  Hi Alex,

  Make sure to install the latest Premiere updates, I believe it is version 5.5.2, as updates often fix bugs and generally improve stability. RAM is a big one though.

  Put your project on the desktop, also convenient,and eh…go for at least 16 RAM
