  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS 5.5 for Mac – Batch Capture NOT WORKING

Posted by Meagan Brady-wright on August 4, 2012 at 6:19 pm

Batch Capture in Premiere Pro 5.5.2 is not working for me. I am capturing DV video from MiniDV tape over a Firewire cable (using a Firewire 400 to Firewire 800 cable as well as a 6pin to 4pin adapter going into my VTR) from a Sony GV-D300 Digital Video Cassette Recorder. My iMac (4.3 GHz Intel Core i7 – running OS 10.7.4 Lion) with Premiere Pro 5.5.2 controls the VTR fine. I can shuttle forward and backward and mark and log clips. I can also capture using the “In/Out” button as well as the “Tape” button in the Capture section of the “Logging” tab in the Capture window. But when I try to use the “Batch Capture” command (after selecting clips to capture in the Project Panel) I immediately get a window that pops up with the message “Batch Capture finished” and a Batch Capture Log is generated which says “Capture Failed: Device not found”. Is there something I am doing (or NOT doing) which might be causing this? I have several tapes of clips to log and it would be a serious inconvenience if I had to injest EVERYTHING without the functionality of something as basic as batch capture. Anybody have an idea what would be causing this? Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks for responding – it looks like this is a big fail for Premiere 5.5. Luckily it works for me on THIS project to just use “scene detect” (which worked fine), but I’m pretty surprised that I can’t find any answer to why Batch Capture doesn’t work. I’ll be calling Adobe support tomorrow.

I found sometimes the tape had to be rewound all the way to the start for it to kick in properly.

    Let us know.

Thanks for the advice! I’m pretty sure it was rewound completely when I tried before, but I will try again to be sure.

Batch capture never worked for us either with plain DV tapes connected via Firewire or professional VTRs connected through our capture cards.

Tape capture doesn’t work for us in CS6 either quite honestly and we can only use a BMD card to layback to tape.
