Ideal hard drive setup for editing?
Okay, so I’ve got a 2-year old quad-core PC with a 500GB 7200RPM 3gb/s internal and am thinking about getting another internal hard drive to store my project files? I work with AVCHD for now, and have a 1TB USB external for my backup, and am going to get a second one in the future as a second backup. Do you think two internal hard drives with 7200rpm is sufficient, with one having the software on it and the other with just the project files on it? I don’t really want a RAID setup right now.

You never want video files on the C: drive, definitely use a dedicated internal drive, or fast external (not USB 2.0) for media assets.
For internal, look for 7200rpm SATA 6Gb/s with 64mb cache, for instance WD Caviar Black or similar. Avoid any drive with “Green” in the name, these are “energy saving” = poor performance for editing.

My motherboard only support 3GB/s at this time, but I should see a performance increase hopefully.
