Color space problems with CS6 AE and Premiere
I have a problem which cropped up when I started using CS6 which seems to be related to color space.
Over the several years I have experienced no such problems through several versions of the Adobe suite and several OS changes on different systems.
I shoot timelapse shots on a DSLR in RAW and output them via Lightroom as ProPhotoRGB PSD files. I bring these into Premiere and AE and even Final Cut on both PCs and Macs and everything is normal. Both my PC and Mac systems have Matrox hardware (MXO2max) for monitoring.
Now suddenly with CS6 I exported a clip and it comes into AE and Premiere looking very off color. In AE, I went to interpret footage Color Management and changed the profile to ProPhotoRGB and it looked normal again. However I can find no such setting in Premiere. When I later go to interpret footage in AE I see that the clip is set to “Embedded” color profile and it still looks good.
Furthermore, if I render this correct looking clip out of AE as an uncompressed (animation codec) quicktime and import it into Premiere it looks bad again. If I import the rendered clip into AE it looks bad again. In AE, color profile on the rendered and re-imported clip is set to sRGB IEC61966-2.1. There is no choice for embedded. Switching it to ProPhotoRGB again fixes the problem.
In the render cue I can see that when rendered, the Output Module Profile was set to Working Space- ProPhoto RGB.
Also, everything on the monitors driven by the Matrox boxes looks off, even the correct looking image in AE. It looks correct on the computer monitor, bad on the external monitor. This off color look is consistent, there seems to be the same problem in each case.
Any ideas? Am I missing something obvious. Never had a problem anything like this before. Thanks in advance for any wisdom proffered.

Premiere Pro is not color managed, but AE is. Colors in an AE comp sent to Premiere via Dynamic Link are sent in the working color space.
Don’t set AE’s working space to ProPhoto; set it to Rec. 709 (assuming HD delivery in Premiere) and make sure that the footage is correctly interpreted as ProPhoto.
