  Who’s crazy, Media Exporter or Me?

  Hey Everyone,

  I’m confused on an issue that I’ve experienced since working with PP that I don’t see anyone else complaining about? Which either means I’m crazy or everyone else just accepts it? (after thinking about it-neither is good for me)

  Our ‘Exports’ out of Premier take FOREVER to export? Almost all of our footage is ProRes. Unfortunately Premier doesn’t have the ProRes codecs for the timeline, so we’ll use DVCPro. We’re mostly using SD footage, but even with SD footage, it will take 6+ hours to render out 1 hour of SD video from the timeline? That’s seems wrong. FCP would be an hour or 2-tops. (Using MacPro Quad-Core 3ghz)

  I have a feeling it’s the ProRes, that Premier just can’t export it out without a lot of computation. Unfortunately we like to use the AJA KiPro recorders, which only record to ProRes.

  Am I missing something?

  you can set the timeline to be prores

  change it to Quicktime Desktop video, then underneath it pro res.

  You really need to enable hardware assisted encoding using the GPU’s in your system if you have not already done that. It makes a huge difference.

  Although the first site says that the GPU is not used for export, it is used for rendering and teh highest quality output.

  Unless your system is bottleneckled elsewhere or not using your CPU’s fully. Export should not take more than the running length of the video at worst.

  There are also background export options in Encoder, and ways to force it to use more CPU cores.

  agree with Michael,

  it helps greatly to have something like a Quadro 4000.
  It is used on export, mine winds up quite a bit (cooling fan) on complex layered sequence exports.

  and of course a fast raid helps too.

  Thanks for the info, but I don’t see where there’s that choice?

  Under ‘new sequence’ and ‘editing mode’ there’s no choice for ProRes or QuickTime desktop?

  That’s way too long. Can you post a screen shot of your export settings?
