AVCHD or MPEG2 (mxf) better for CS5?
I was about to pull the trigger on a Canon XF100, but lately I’ve taken more notice of the Panasonic AC130. I know the differences between the two, and I’ve read up plenty on the differences between the two recording formats. But there are a couple of things I think I might like better on the Panasonic. Thus, this leaves me with only one more issue- I work on Adobe Premiere, and the rest of the CS5 suite, and that’s not likely to change where I work.
Will I have more ease of use with MPEG2 over AVCHD with Premiere and AfterEffects? I’ve heard that AVCHD might not be as easy to import and work with, but most of those discussions were FCP users.
Will I be able to leave all my footage in MPEG4/Quick time on my drives, or will I have to convert everything before I import them? If I can save space with 25Mbps files vs 50Mbps files, then that would be more attractive to me. I also am not interested in converting very much. Less steps, the better.
4:2:2 sounds nice, but I decided I wouldn’t have much use for it. This camera will be a learning camera for me, i.e. my first foray into the professional video world- not something I’m going to be doing a lot of color correction or chroma keying on.
I’m sure there have been many discussions like this on the forums, but I’ve been googling for days.
