I’m working in AE 6.5, and something I did has changed the behavior of my selection and mask tools. Whenever I click and drag, I just get a strange additive mask, not tied to any layer, effecting the entire comp. Once created, there appears to be no way to get rid of the mask. I’m sure that I’ve bumped a key and accidentally turned something or other on, but I don’t have a clue what, and restarting AE doesn’t fix the problem.

What did I do, and how do I fix it?

Probably the compositing work area button. one of the buttons in your comp that looks like a tv with picutre in a picture mode on, is probably switched on.
