    Hi Guys,

I work in cine film transfer and have been using old Elmo TRV machines for years and capturing through a Canopus 50/55 into PremierePro 5 on a PC. I’ve never had any problems.

I have now bought myself a used FlashScan8 & 9.5 combo unit (manufactured by MWA Germany). It has an S-Video along with Firewire & SDI output.

I tried capturing via the S-Video output and it all goes well until about 5 – 6 minutes in and then the capture starts to stick, turn to B&W and freeze frames. I’ve tried it a few times and also changed leads, but it still happens, so I’ve give up on that!

I bought a DeckLink SDI editing card and have tried it in two PCs that I have and still can’t capture.

I’ve installed the capture card hardware and software a number of times and as mentioned, tried it on a couple of PCs just in case one had an issue.

I’ve been on to Black Magic Design in the US and he seems to think all is OK with the hardware/software and I need to test to see if there is an SDI signal coming out of the FlashScan. So I’m off tomorrow up to London to hire a monitor for the day vto find out if there is a signal! Ohhh, it’s really tiring trying to set it up.

Has anyone else experienced any issues with using this hardware/software?

If it looks like the Flashscan is ok and the SDI signal is fine, I’m seriously thinking about switching over to an Apple iMac 27…

Any advice on any of the above points would be well received, many thanks in advance.

    Bruce

what happens when you hook up the s-video to a standard
    monitor with s-video?

    Does it work perfectly?

Nice film transfer unit you got there.

I do some of that as well with 5-blade shutter / aerial telecine.
