  Jagged Looking Timecode

  So, we are having some strange issue with the Timecode Effect in Premiere Pro CS5.5. We capture uncompressed from Beta and DigiBeta tapes in order to create DVD screeners. When adding the timecode filter, the numbers that compose said TC show really jagged with a sort of venetian blind effect distorting them. If we export the sequence as progressive just for the heck of it, the timecode comes out looking nice and smooth and clean…but as a result we lose the crispness of the text elsewhere in the file. As soon as we export out as lower field first, the timecode goes back to looking terrible but everything else looks fine. Every combination of exporting, deinterlacing, whatever, results in a lose of quality in some respects so we have to go with the lesser of the evils…having a cruddy, jagged looking timecode overlay. Is there something we are overlooking that is making the timecode not want to look smooth? We recently have been making the switch from FCP to Premiere, and this was never an issue in FCP.
