  export from Premiere cs 5.5 through Encoder – no error message, but movie is not complete

  Hi everybody,
  I shot a movie with Sony EX1(1920x1080i), editing in premiere 5.5, trying to export using Adobe Encoder. I need to make a dvd then, so I optioned Mpeg2 720×576 format. Movie should be 1hour and 15minutes long. after 20 hours of rendering encoder finished exoprting, showed a green “o.k. sign” and it looks, everything is all right. But the movie is long just 41 minutes, ending in half of one the scenes. There´s no chapter point, no marker, nothing that should tell to encoder, that this is the point, where to end the movie. Anybody similar experience? Thanx a lot

  Hi,

  First off, 20 hours is a ridiculous amount of time for a DVD export, unless you have an older computer and/or are rendering some heavy effects as well. If using 2-Pass encoding, don’t, that will save a lot of time and not really necessary on a program of that length.

  When exporting, be sure it is set to “Entire Sequence” and not “Work Area”, this is at lower left of AME window. Also be sure you are choosing “MPEG-2 for DVD” and not just “MPEG-2”, must be the correct type of MPEG-2 file that you export.

  What are your PC specs?

  Hi Jeff,
  after Your post, I feel like the pupil in the first class of elementary videoschool now:)
  why to render the whole “entire sequence”? I live in the world, where work area shows and leads, which part of my movie will be really exported. There was a time (premiere 1.5 or something…), when I realized, that option “entire sequence” means exporting my movie + all that dumb area after the last clip (the black hole I don´t need.) where´s the truth, please?
  I exported with mpeg2, not mpeg2-DVD, You´re rigt. it´s because, I never managed to get all that “stupid” files (videofile m2v, some audio file, and some more files I have never understod) to DVD architect.
  My PC is laptop, intel i7, 4Gb, Nvidia GeForce 230M, there shouldn´t be so big trouble in this, i think.

  Hi Vaclav,

  “Entire Sequence” only means “include the whole video”. Unless you manually move it, the Work Area Bar only encompasses from the first clip to the last clip, and nothing more – no empty space at the end.

  With the Export to MPEG-2 for DVD, you get the .m2v Video file and .wav Audio file, plus a few more, which work behind the scenes to give you the chapter points in Encore, (if you made any in Premiere sequence). You don’t have to do anything with the extra clips, it is automatic. Do the Export, then in Encore, use “Import as Timeline” and bring in the .m2v and .wav clips only.
