Replacing video clip with image sequence
Posted by Pim Braeckevelt on December 9, 2011 at 5:36 pmHi,
I’d like to replace a video clip with an image sequence, but I can’t select numbered stills or anything when I try to, so PP ends up replacing the clip with only one image. Any thoughts on this?I know I could export the image sequence as a mov and then replace it, but the mov is way bigger (couple of GB) than the sequence.

December 10, 2011 at 3:09 amIs it possible to setup your image sequence as an independant (new) sequence and then just replace the video with a nested sequence? I haven’t tried it but that’s what I might try off the top of my still-new-to-premiere head.

December 10, 2011 at 4:42 amHave you tried importing the image seq. to the project first, then doing a select-clip and ALT-drag to replace?

December 10, 2011 at 4:06 pmAre you on a Dual monitor configuration by chance?
I don’t know about mac….
But on Windows (and also on older versions of PPro running on XP)There was a strange interface bug if you had your desktop set to “Spanned” as opposed to “Dual”
In “spanned” mode, the option to recognize image sequences was hidden in the import dialog. In “Dual” mode it showed up just fine.
Just a shot in the dark.

September 1, 2012 at 4:05 amAlex, by chance I have similar issue – I try to replace MOV proxies with final DPX sequences. I select a proxy in Project Panel, then I choose “Replace footage” and navigate to my final sequence…
And – strangely – there’s no “import as image sequence” checkbox which should be located bottom left of the import window.
So I can only replace my MOV file with a single image. Is it a bug you are speaking abiut? I work on a single monitor – completely normal 🙂
EDIT: I have also tried alt+drag trick, but there are issues here to. When the clip is replaced by the sequence this way, it resets the CUT-IN point of the clip to the beginning of the source sequence. So if you have had edited a proxy, by cutting out for example first 3 seconds, now – when you have replaced it with an image sequence – the CUT-IN point is at the beginning of the file, not after 3 seconds.
Here is a little video, which illustrates the problem:

For all of you, who suffer from above ‘bizzaremente’ – the solution is as simple as SHIFT+ALT+drag, instead of ALT+drag. 🙂 That way the in and out points are preserved.
