  Premiere Pro CS5.5 and XDCam EX workflows/relinking

  Hi,

  I am finishing work on a project prepared by someone else in Premiere CS.5. Its a load of XDCam-EX Material that was imported through the Premiere File browser, so I got the MP4-Files from the BPAV-Structure directly in my project.

  Now when moving to another harddisk (Filestructure unchanged!) or when working on another machine in CS5 I always get broken links (not all just some strangely).
  When relinking I come across the problem that the BPAV-Structure from XDCam has one file per folder so I have to relink every single file by hand. Is there any way to automatically search through a folder and its subfolders, link, repeat until done like in Final Cut Pro?

  Or is the import through the file browser problematic generally with XDCam?

  Another problem is that I do not get a proper thumbnail preview when ingesting the clips like with the Sony XDCam Clipbrowser or FCPs Log+Transfer. Adobe Bridge does not understand the XDCam File structure so this also fails.
  Do i need to install any additional software when working with XDCam in Premiere (Final Cut used to depend on the Sony importer until they included native import for XDCam-EX for example)?!?

  If your files are organized in your Premiere Pro Project, you can simply highlight all the files that would be in one BPAV folder and then select your “link media”. Once you select the first clip it will automatically link all the other highlighted clips contained in the BPAV.
  Not sure about the thumbnail previews in Bridge. When working with EX footage I simply import the BPAV folder. PP finds the mp4’s it can work with (it says doesn’t understand the other files, which is fine) and then I edit natively. I don’t know if this is the “proper” way to do things, but I haven’t came across an issue in the 3 years I have been editing EX footage on PP.

  Not sure on the fix, but in the future, you might want to convert all of your raw XDCAM material into self-contained .mxf files using the Sony Clip Browser software. That way, all of the .mxfs are in one folder with no sub-folders. Once you link one, Premiere should find the rest. I only use the raw XDCAM BPAV material as a raw footage item for archiving.
