Absolute Position Through a Null Expression
Howdy Cow,
I am trying to develop an expression that will use a layers distance to the camera as a way to affect it’s transparency. The problem is that, when a layer is parented to a null, it locks itself to its original position, even if I move its parent. In other words, the layers “position” does not get any further away from the camera even though its parent (and therefore itself) IS moving away. Is there a way to access a layers absolute position to be used in an expression?

From within the same layer, use this:
toWorld(anchorPoint);
From another layer it would be like this:
L = thisComp.layer(“child layer”);
L.toWorld(L.anchorPoint); -
