Dynamic Actual-time stamp in PPro with Dynamic Link?
I need to create a self-updating actual-time timestamp to embed in a video through Premiere Pro. I know that probably doesn’t make a lot of sense – hopefully I can clarify a little by explaining the purpose behind this need.
Basically, we are producing a video which is being constantly updated and then sent via FTP to external subject matter experts (SME’s) for review. Each time the video is updated, the previous version becomes obsolete – so our very un-technical SME’s are aggregating a pile-up of old versions that quickly becomes very confusing and hard for them to keep track of. Due to an additional web-streaming requirement, adding a simple version number in the actual filename is not an option as the filename must stay constant – so the timestamp must be in the video stream itself.
Given the sheer volume of revisions we are pumping out, I would very much like the timestamp to be automated as I KNOW that at some point we will forget to update it on one export, causing confusion en-masse as people try to figure out which version is really the latest one. I have tried the following approach with only partial success – any ideas on a better aproach would be greatly appreciated:
I created an AfterEffects comp with a text layer using the “numbers” effect and told it to show the date and time – which seems to work just fine within AE (automatically updates the time as time progresses). I then drop this AE comp onto the PPro timeline using DynamicLink, and it seems to work – however after letting some time pass by, I realize that it does NOT update the time like it does if I open it in AE. What I was hoping to do is just drop the AE comp on the timeline and simply forget about it, knowing that every time I export it would update the date/time automatically.
Any suggestions on a better aproach?
Many thanks,
Brynn
