Are there any transition plugins that actually work as transitions?
I’ve just installed both Boris BCC8 and Coremelt 2.5 into my Premiere Pro CS5.5 (Mac) and while both say they contain transitions, the transitions folders for both actually appear in the ‘Filters’ folder so they can’t be applied between two clips like a transition actually should be. I can pull a ‘Whip Pan’ filter out, but it applies to one entire clip or the other versus being placed between both, as, well… a transition. Am I missing something, or are none of these companies capable enough to make a simple transition plugin that actually properly works as a transition? Why are transitions even showing up in the filters folder? Is Premiere Pro on a Mac so completely far away from anything else out there that a simple blur dissolve is impossible to figure out? Please tell me I’m overlooking something.

I can only reassert what I already stated. Boris Red 5.0 MAC has a transition effect in Premieres transition folder. You drop that on the area between 2 clips on the timeline. . Click on it to open the Premiere effects window. Then open the application to reveal Boris 5.0. For more details, read the manual, it usually helps clarify any points of confusion. If you are on a MAC it will be released soon.

No, I get that and look forward to it’s eventual release (and the Boris support team I spent 30 minutes on the phone with yesterday seemed to have no real info as to how close we might actually be to that), but until it’s ACTUALLY released it doesn’t really solve my problem or answer my question. Why, in both Boris and Coremelt, are the ‘transitions’ housed in the filters folder where they can’t actually be utilized as transitions? They operate properly in Final Cut 7, but not in Premiere. That tells me that they’re broken and this break needs to be addressed. I’m not asking for a new plugin that creates Pixar level animations automatically… I’m just looking for something very basic and elementary to work as it’s supposed to in a product I’ve already paid for.

Point taken. Until its released it does you no good. But as a tester I can assure you when it IS released it will be worth the wait. I hate the lack of good transitions from other vendors for Premiere. But that will change in the future 😀

Yeah, it’s really been frustrating, especially when I can see them all in the filters folder, but they can’t actually be properly utilized in an edit. I thought maybe there was something I was missing (like moving those plugins to a different folder where they would actually be seen and act like transitions). It just seems bizarre to me that neither Boris nor Coremelt properly houses and handles their own transitions in Premiere/Mac.

Don’t know if it helps your question, but other transition “filter” plugs need to address the “from” or “to” clip (on a lower track) inside the filter settings. Very annoying, not nearly as fast as simply dropping between two adjacent clips, but it does work.
