  Strange motion artefact

  Im having a problem with a video I’ve been working on, but I cant see it on my system, or on my phone, or on many other friends lap tops or desk tops, but on some machines there is, what I think is, judder. It looks kind of like a flickering of horizontal bars of the image doubling almost like something you might see if you filmed an led monitor.

  Any ideas on what it could be to help me track down a solution?

  How bout some details?
  Did you shoot interlaced?
  Are you viewing this on an ext. video monitor?

  Clip codec/framerate/size?
  Sequence codec/framerate?
  Camera used?

  Hi Chris,

  I had posted about this problem a few weeks ago, and while the post had many views there were no responses. I had included all the info, but thought maybe it was overload, and after waiting with no response on any forum i’ve posted I thought i’d try a bare bones description of the problem.

  Hello,

  I’ve edited a video in PPro CS5 with footage from a Pentax K-7 HD DSLR. I dont have a lot of experience with HD DSLR footage, but I have worked with 7D footage with no problems at all.

  The problem I am having is that when I export the video using H.264 everything looks great on my Mac Book Pro. When I upload it to Vimeo and watch it it still looks great, and it looks fine when I play it on my Iphone 3GS through the Vimeo app., but every other computer Ive watched it on or had co workers watch it on there are strange glitches that are very obvious. It looks like horizontal bars, not like you would see with interlaced footage, but horizontal bars that look like the shot is arranged incorrectly or something to that effect and it increases as motion increases.

  I have made several time lines with different properties, and exported each of them out a few different ways. Only two of the options show up fine for me no matter how I view the footage, unless its on another computer. The rest are bad for me and everyone else

  Just to put it out there, I know it is not an internet connection problem.

  These are the source/ outputs that have been successful for me to view on web, hard drive, and Iphone but not for anyone else at all.

  have also tried timeline settings to match footage but when i went to export footage it went to export for Iphone…

  Try a sequence where you drag and drop one of the clips to the New Item button. This ensures that source and sequence settings match identically.

  The other thing I would suspect is the original Pentax footage. I’ve never heard of anyone working with this camera so I am not sure if there may be issues with it.

  I did try this, but when I went to export and matched the comp settings it said it was going to export as iphone/mobile device etc. I thought that must be wrong so I canceled it.

  I did hear of some problems with this Pentax with CS4. I read that it was using an older codec and that Premiere Pro CS4 wasn’t compatible with the native footage. I read that CS5 works fine with it though. Also if it is the camera, why would it just play strangely on certain devices?

  iPhone? That doesn’t sound right. Can you change it to H.264?
  Yes, it appears you camera records AVI files and most DSLRs record H.264 files so it is rather different.
