Importing 8 bit uncompressed quicktime video, but won’t recognise my four channels of audio in the file
Hi guys,
I’m using trying to use (OS X) Premiere Pro (and / or media encoder) to convert a series of Uncompressed 8 bit Quicktime video files into MXF IMX30 format.
My video files have four channels of audio and I need these four channels to remain four channels when transferred to MXF. The files were created in Final Cut.
When I drop the files into Premiere or Media Encoder, the software will only recognise the first two channels of audio. It does not acknowledge all four channels.
With other video formats, PPro will acknowledge all four channels, though I am hoping to re-encode all my quick times.
Has anybody encountered this problem and did you find a solution?

Gday Mate, This is currently a known issue and is on the list.
I’m not sure about the workarounds, but there is definitely someone out there doing the same or similar and be able to give you some direction.

That’s a shame! Can you recommend a format that premiere recognises that has four channels of audio?

So what is the issue exactly with the workflow.
Did you wanna edit the footage with the 4 channels coming in?
Have you tried, what was the result?
I think P2MXF might work… Hmmm. Walter Biscardi might be able to help you he’s done extensive FCP to PPro workflow logging.

No, no editing. Just easier (in theory) to do batch export of these files into MXF format from Premiere / media encoder. In FCP, we have to cue files manually to encode, and it takes ages also as FCP won’t utilise all our CPU power.
However as they are stripping out audio channels 3/4 this option sadly isn’t working for us. So I am thinking now a batch encode of our files from FCP into a format with four channels that PPro / Media Encoder WILL recognise.
This way, I set off only two batch encodes over two nights, rather than multiple MXF encodes from FCP over potentially a week.

We shoot many flavors of HD and SD on P2 and maintain 4 ch. audio in APP.

Hi mate,
The MXF video files have been requested by a broadcaster in Turkey. We have 65x 24min episodes sitting on our drives as Uncompressed SD 8-bit, four channel audio (stereo mix 1&2 and M&E 3&4).
We can export MXF one at a time in FCP, but the renders take AGES and have to be set off manually. And the broadcaster needs the program yesterday.
So I was hoping to utilise PPro / Media Encoder to batch export the video to MXF, however the adobe software is stripping out the audio channels 3&4 in the outputted MXFs.
Any thoughts?
