Codec question
I am trying to playback Final Cut .mov files on my Windows computer with PP 5.5. This does not seem to be working and after much research it appears I need Calibrated Software to play them. However some places say that Quicktime Pro might work. Since it is much cheaper I would rather use that but has anyone used this for these kinds of files? I need to know if it will work before I buy it as there is no free trial that I can find.

If these are AIC (apple intermediate codec) for say P2, XDCAM, HDV files then yes on a PC there is no other real option, QT Pro won’t give you the playback.
You can only use ProRes codec for non 3rd party required playback on PC.
Hope this helps, but unfortunately this is the way Apple have set it up. From what I hear though the Calibrated plugin works quite well. 🙂

Try downloading the codec from Sony. That might be all you need. But: good luck finding it on Sony’s site. It took many search attempts for me to find the XDCam codec/software (which was free to download once I found it).

I have been trying for WEEKS to find the Sony PMW-Ex3XDCAM codec for use In Premiere Pro on a PC for an associate.
I cannot believe for the life of me that it is not available on Sony’s site.
I tried searching this forum, other forums, and googled like crazy following every link i found to try and find this.
Is there SOMEONE out there that can supply a direct download link to ANY site that has this codec for free?
