    Hi Hunter,

An option is available in the CS5 preferences to leave RAM for other programs, I don’t remember it being available in CS4. Premiere should use all the RAM that’s available to it. I have 16 gigs and all of it gets used with multithreading enabled.

You haven’t really mentioned the system you are working on, 32bit (limited to 4 Gigs) /64 bit, Mac / PC.

Oh yes, sorry. It’s Windows Vista, 64-bit, 4GB RAM, plus 1GB Video RAM Nvidia Graphics card.

I’ve seen some people adjust the priority of PPro in the Task Manager Processes tab…but I never thought that actually did anything, or at least not any noticeable performance changes.

    Thanks,
    Hunter

Premiere Pro CS4 is a 32-bit application and therefore can only use a small amount of RAM. That was one of the main reasons for the 64-bit port for Premiere Pro CS5.

So the answer for Premiere Pro CS4 is, basically, no.
