Premiere – Morph Transition?
Posted by Mike Dalton on August 30, 2011 at 5:50 pmI currently use Avid Media Composer, but I’m thinking about switching to Premiere. One thing I would desperately miss however, is Avid’s “fluid morph” effect, which allows near seamless transitions between 2 similar shots. I use this all the time in talking-head interview shots. Does Premiere or After Effects have any native or 3rd party transitions that would be similar? Thanks for any suggestions.

August 30, 2011 at 6:04 pmI checked in AE . No morph. But really, you want a transition that you can drop on your timeline. Fiddling around to make AE create transtions would slow you way down.
I suggest (if on a PC since Mac version isnt out yet) Boris Red 5.
https://www.borisfx.com/press/RED5.php
It has 2 warps…
“Other New Filters include Lens Shape, Warp, Morph, Video Morph, Pencil Sketch, Charcoal Sketch, Cartoon Look, Water Color, Tile Mosaic, Lightning, and Color Choker.”
And allows you to use a vast wonderful library of sophisticated transitions that can be modified with lots of various controls.

August 30, 2011 at 6:33 pmTom, on your suggestion, I looked at some of the Boris for AE stuff (they have a product called “Morph Win”) – and I’ve come to the concluson that either:
1). Boris has a terrible marketing department
Or
2). Their morph transitions are terrible.
The reason for this conclusion is that there does not seem to be a single video example on the entire internet from Boris or anyone else demonstrating their morph transitions. So, it would seem that they are either deliberately hiding the finished product, or they don’t employ anyone who knows how to use this newfangled internet thing.
It’s weird! -

August 30, 2011 at 8:21 pmMike, Boris for AE is not what I suggested. Boris Red 5 is the software that will allow you to use or create very cool TRANSITIONS within Premiere, which is a hell of a lot faster when you are cutting primarily in Prmeiere Pro. I send certain clips to AE when motion graphics or special effects are needed. If you are on a PC Boris Red 5 is available as a FREE download with use over a certain time period. Believe me, Ive done extensive research on what is available for Premiere Pro CS 5.5 in terms of transitions. This one gets my money 😀
Here is a visual library of some of their stuff.
