  • No video playback in Premiere CS4

    Hey,

I previously had Premiere Pro CS4 installed on my computer and it worked flawlessly. However, my computer went haywire a little while back and a file got corrupted in the program, so I had to uninstall and reinstall. Now the program works fine, except for video playback. When I play my footage in any other software, it works fine. In fact, I started editing this project in Premiere with out issue before my computer got messed up.

Now that my computer is back to normal and Premiere is installed again, when I play the video in either the preview or source monitor, only audio can be heard; the screen goes black. When the footage isn’t playing and the video is still, this is what appears: (the footage is shown upside down in inverted colors w/ a turquoise banner on the bottom).

Any idea how to fix this? Is it as simple as uninstall the program and try to reinstall again? The issue shouldn’t be my graphics card or RAM since the program had been working fine before. Thanks!

    John

    Hi John,

By re-installed, do you mean by wiping off the hard drive?

If something gets corrupted in the OS, that’s pretty much the only way to do it. Even a system restore is sketchy.

If you did start over, I would go the graphics card manufacturer site and download the current driver version. You haven’t mentioned the format of the video you are working with, is this happening if you bring in bars and tones? I’m assuming it’s native since I don’t see any bars above the timeline.

    Vince,

Before I reinstalled, I erased all memory of the program that existed on the computer. And I forgot to mention, I’m working on a Windows XP, not a Mac.

The inverted colors also happens during bars & tone and titles. I’m using non-HD avi footage from a Pansonic DVC30. Nothing too complex that the program shouldn’t be able to handle (I’ve been editing with footage from this camera for a couple of years now on this computer).

    Hi John,

My recommendation, other than getting the latest graphics driver, would be to reformat the drive and install XP and CS4 from scratch, unless that’s what you meant by Erasing all memory of the program.

Drivers are part of the Windows architecture, so erasing Premiere alone will likely not solve your issues.

This looks like a graphics driver problem.
If still no picture. Deinstall, use Cleaner Tool and reinstall.
