I’m hopefully that this is operator error, but when I apply the Timecode plugin (under Video Effects -> Video -> Timecode) nothing happens. Whether I select media, clip or generate as the source, change the settings etc, nothing happens; no overlay. The Premiere Pro help indicates the effect should be an overlay as expected and I’ve followed the instructions to the best of my ability but it hasn’t worked on any clips so far.

Any idea what I’m doing wrong?

    Media is either 1080p24 ProRes or 1080p24 AVCCAM/AVCHD on CS5.5 on 10.7 on a 1080p24 sequence.

Update: to give you an idea of where I’m coming from, normally I’d apply a Timecode Reader plugin in FCP6-7 when delivering rushes to a client or someone I’m working with (I could just add it to the sequence).

If you are running Lion, that is a reported problem by Adobe. Its what happens when you adopt a new operating system before all the bugs are out 😉

    Thanks Tom.

Luckily, I have a working partition of 10.6.8 so it’s not a big deal (rarely without a parachute) – just that everything else seems to work fine with CS5.5 (quite well actually) so there was no indication something else was amiss.

The Premiere Pro CS5.5 (5.5.2) update fixes the problem with the Timecode effect overlay not working, as well as some other issues. See this page for details:

Thank you Todd (and the whole team)… this is fantastic news as we have some major projects coming up and I was not looking forward to having to revert to some hybrid workflow for the dailies. The Matrox fixes also are very welcomed!

We have to say that while we’ve had push-back from editors who fear Premiere, that changes once they use it.
