Premiere Pro Online fails to impress
Hi all, I am an online editor/colourist and have taken the plunge into Premiere Pro from Final Cut 7. Series work for HD Australian broadcast and international delivery – HDCAM/8bit/5.1
My advice to anyone wanting to make the jump is allow tonnes of time to iron out bugs, and my gut feeling is it isnt ready yet.
In the end it wasnt the small inconveniences that killed it (they are always offset by the positives) – it was basic stability and playout to tape problems.I have moved back to FCP7 after wasting a lot of time. ho hum.
I still respect Adobes efforts in supporting pro apps, and will keep one eye on Premiere as it evolves.

Yes I used the features request and the bug report and will continue to do so as we keep testing Prem Pro (out of primetime so to speak). I never used the forum to air the problems, however, due to time constraints, but it is a good resource to remember in the future – I agree.

Hi Pete,
I also changed from FCP to Premiere and didn’t noticed big bugs. The problem for me was more to find out the right configuration with the Audiinterfaces (Fireface 800 is not supported, Aja is but just with more than 1024 buffer, and, Kona LHe does not support R3D-Timelines really,…). These settings where much easier to figure out in FCP.

[Thomas Pohl] “Fireface 800 is not supported”
Hi Thomas,
I’ve been using a Fireface 800 with CS5.5/10.6 and 10.7 without issue as the audio interface. I’ve found it to be supported adequately. Just curious what you meant?

Hi Petros,
now I found out that the AJA drivers seem to be the reason. If I use a timeline with the AJA settings to preview with the Kona LHe – audio is flipping around.
That`s one of the big disadvantages of Premiere. The AJA integration works not on the same professional level as it does with FCP.Cheers

Hi Thomas,
If it makes you feel any better the Matrox MXO2 on Premiere is also very flaky and doesn’t work as well as FCP; it’s too bad really as monitoring (in current generation software) seems to be a “bonus” at the moment.
