Premiere hangs up with AVCHD switching windows
Has anyone had this problem or know a solution?
I’m editing an AVCHD video to a written script. I have the script in its own window next to Premiere so I can follow along. When I switch to MS Word to scroll down the script and back to Premiere, I get the rolling circle indicating I have to wait for something. It lasts 15-20 seconds before I can edit again.If I remain in Premiere this doesn’t happen. I phoned Adobe and they had be delete Preferences and clean the Media cache file. That seemed to work but now it’s back again.
Does this have any relation to how many sequences you have, how many source files are loaded or anything like that? This is first time having this problem. I’ve edited a fair number of MiniDV, digibeta and AVCHD, however this is first time with a script.
My system is PC: Dell XPS420 with Core2duo8500, 8g ram, Windows Vista, NVIDIA GTX470 (for Mercury Engine), AJA Kona LHi card.

Two things come to mind:
One possibility is that you’re not leaving enough RAM for other applications, so the operating system is needing to spend a lot of time swapping the contents of RAM to disk when you switch applications. Try setting the RAM To Leave For Other Applications preference to a higher amount.
Another possibility is that you’re hitting an issue that was fixed in Premiere Pro CS5.5: When you switch between applications, Premiere Pro would write a lot of data to the disk, and those write operations wold be delayed by some overly aggressive anti-virus/security software. Try disabling your anti-virus/security software temporarily (after disconnecting from the Internet, of course) and see if that helps. As I said, that problem was dealt with in Premiere Pro CS5.5. You could download the trial version of Premiere Pro CS5.5 and see if that fixes the issue for you.

Yes, both those ideas seemed to help. The antivirus disable seemed more effective. It still has a delay switching windows, but instead of 20 plus seconds was only a couple of seconds. I also changed memory to allow 4g for Premiere and 4 g for other processes.
