  • getting an xpress dv timeline to AE..

Posted by Stefan Kroesbacher on April 20, 2006 at 6:51 pm

    Hi all,

i have never worked on an avid xpress, so here’s my problem:
    we have HD files.
i’ll work with an editor, who does a first edit in avid xpress dv
    with SD-dv files.
i have to do the compositing with the HD-files in AE..

so, how do i get the timeline into AE??
do i need automatic duck plug ins,
or does the “built-in” AAF export of xpress-dv create a file i can import to AE??

i never did a transfer like this (neither on FCP nor on Avid),
so my knowledge is quite limited..

    any help highly appreciated!!!

    thanx

If you’re seriously considering real EDL/ timeline info, then this can only be done using Duck. However, since only the rough cut is done on XPress and it usually only contains hard cuts and simpel fades, you should be able to use an exported reference movie with timecode burnt in to get the same result. AFAIK, AAF only works reliably across different Avid systems since other programs can’t read the meta data properly (hence the need for Duck).

    well,

    it’s not a simple edit…
every scene will consist of min. 3 layers!
so a working solution is needed.

but if i’m correct avid aaf-import works with AE7, right???

    thanx
