This may sound very basic , but I have a mental block. Did a video for a client created a rough cut and then rendered. Uploaded for client to see.

He responded by giving me specific times in the video that he wanted deleted or footage to insert. My question is do I edit against the video I uploaded and make the edits on my timeline in premiere. how do I actually make the edits on the timeline based on his changes. His question to me was after his first change wouldn’t his timeline and my timeline then be off?

Not sure the workflow or if I have been doing it wrong to date.

    Thanks

    Bob

When I get notes like that, I watch the sequence through with the notes, add markers to the clips, and then go back and edit at my markers.

You can also work backward, performing the last edits in the timeline. Then, all timecodes will be accurate as you work from the end of the timeline toward the front.

    Steve has it right….

    Makers don’t ripple.

Clip markers ripple. I use numbered clip markers to note the times at which I need to make my edits. I use comments in sequence markers for more extensive notes, sometimes referring back to the numbered clip markers.

And I’ve made a feature request for clip markers to be able to hold comments.

Thank you for this. It would be a wonderful thing!

I’m surprised nobody has mentioned using Clipnotes.

‘Clipnotes’ never worked well, if at all. If you had success with it, you were one of the incredibly lucky few. ‘CS Review’, however, is a very different story. I’m uploading timelines to it right now. ‘CS Review’ works VERY well, enabling us to effectively edit projects while hundreds of miles from the client.

However, it doesn’t replace the need to ‘edit backwards’, since the referenced timecode would be useless as soon as you make the first edit in a list of changes if you start from the front of the timeline.

[Todd Kopriva] “Clip Notes is gone.”

Wow. I haven’t used Premiere much for the last few versions, but that strikes me as… sad 🙁

Thanks, Steve. I’ll definitely have to check into CS Review. Is there any way to create an actual EDL with CS Review?
