CS4 Not responding.
Up until recently I never had a problem with my cs4 software, but currently everytime I try to open any Adobe CS4 Software it either goes “Not responding” immediately or it will allow me to work on the project for a minute or 2 before freezing up and giving the same “Not Responging” message. My computer is more than capable of using these software (Intel i5, Geforce GTX 275, 4gb ddr3, raid 0 hd array – drivers all up to date), I’ve cleaned space of my hard drives, ran ccleaner, disabled anti-virus software – none of it works.
Also, since day one of installation I have been unable to preview sound on adobe premiere by any means. I have updated my soundcard/mobo drivers, as well as changed settings.
I extremely upset, I have been searching for solutions for hours, to no avail.
I have noticed that sometimes I get another software to show up in the task manager when it crashes something like “Droverlord”, but when I researched it people claimed that that error was due to problems within the ram, I checked my physical memory and it says its at 4gb so I don’t know if perhaps there is corruption within it or what (but I’ve never had a problem with any other programs.)

When was day one of installation? i5s are a bit newer than CS4…
“Droverlord” is a memory error…it’s not a virus. Is the RAM all solid? There are certain peripherals that conflict with certain software packages…you’re certain your sound card isn’t a known offender with CS4?

I installed it on 2/28/2010, I would try to uninstall and reinstall the software but I’m using the student edition and cannot for the life of me find the email with the key. I have never seen any problems with my ram, however I suppose a memory test couldn’t hurt. I can check about my soundcard’s comparability, but currently I’m more concerned with getting the software to run.

That’s kind of the point. Your sound card being incompatible could be causing your issue.
I’d find that number as you need to probably clean out that machine and re-install the software so you can at least start troubleshooting.

I’d highly doubt seeing as these programs were running a good 3/4 of a year on the same soundcard drive and suddenly just stopped. I can’t find the codes, they aren’t in any of my emails. This software is the absolute worst, it has incredible capabilities, but its absolutely riddled with random errors.

Um…yeah, well…
You can’t find your own serial number my friend, I’m afraid someone who doesn’t write their purchased serial number down so they can access it leaves an impression with me…and it’s not about the software.
…you said in your initial post the software ran without issue for a long while, but then you note that the sound preview has never worked.
Unless you never cracked the help to set up your ASIO sound card preferences properly, it sounds as if your sound card very well may have had a compatibility issue from day one. If you choose not to troubleshoot a problem, that’s not Premiere Pro’s fault.
You could try attempting to launch the software and holding the shift key down in case the preferences file is corrupt for some reason…
Obviously something happened recently that changed your system as the behavior of the system changed…since you can’t even find your own serial number to reinstall it, the software obviously did not.
Premiere Pro CS4 is professional software. It needs a professional system to run properly. Testing your RAM does not mean checking to see if the system thinks it has the same amount as you do…RAM can have defects that cause operational issues but it’s not like if it powers “on” it’s automatically good at every stress level.
Are you running OS auto-updates? You may want to shut that off. Have you tried restoring your system to a date before the problems happened?
You ask for help and yet you refuse to investigate anything I’ve offered as you “highly doubt” any of this is the problem…
This is a waste of my time. Either start troubleshooting and get us the information we need to help you, or enough already. In this case I “highly doubt” the software is the problem.

I found the serial key, I knew it was in my email, but it wasn’t listed under adobe.
Back when I first installed the pack I went through hours of troubleshooting the soundcard to no avail, that was why I had doubted it was the main contributor to the problem, but I’m currently looking into it again. But the reason I didn’t want to investigate that first is because Photoshop is having the same problem.
“You’ve refused to investigate anything I’ve offered…” On the contrary I believe you might actually be right about the ram, that’s why I am doing diagnostics on it.
I think you misinterpreted my frustration at the program as hostility towards you, and I have no idea how that merited the personal attack you just unleashed. If you feel like you’re wasting your time, then I apologize – and if you really feel that way you can stop at anytime instead of taking the time to write a giant response essentially ridiculing me.
I am going to re-install today, hopefully that will clear up my problem.

The wording of your post was not helpful:

I know you’re not frustrated with me, but blaming the application in this case was just silly.
The application didn’t cause the problem, and it isn’t the “absolute worst”…and if you’ve never gotten audio out of your system, the sound card or the drivers are some kind of problem and have been since the beginning. Hence, why not check the compatibility of your sound card?
Reinstalling the software is very basic troubleshooting, and it seemed that your frustration at not being able to find your own serial number (I hope you wrote it down and stored it somewhere) was being aimed at the software itself.
I’m not really big on personal attacks, but I’m particularly frustrated by people who are being told where their issues most likely are, that seem to only be interested in complaining about some other issue that isn’t responsible for their problem.
PPro CS4 isn’t the “absolute worst” and in this case there is no indication that for you it’s “riddled with random errors”. It IS quite likely that you have a system issue.
