I have SD footage, 16:9 aspect (1.21). The footage is coming through a switcher and then being recorded onto a media encoder. The media encoder spits out a QT movie that’s 4:3 vertically stretched.

Somehow, my Avid always knew exactly how to handle this footage and display it properly in 16:9 space. I’ve created a DV widescreen sequence in PP, but sees that the footage is 720×480 at .91 (4:3), and refuses to stretch it out properly.

In After Effects, I know that I can just go to the interpret footage dialog and change the aspect ratio, if necessary. Is there a way to do this in Premiere? Or, am I just going to have to manually manipulate the scale of this footage every time I need to work with it?

Premiere also has Interprete Footage: rightclick on the clip(s) in the Project Panel.

Thanks! Don’t know how I kept missing that!
