I just bought and installed CS5.5.
    I have a MacPro(3,1) quad core Intel with 10gb ram and a
brand new Quadro 4000 graphics card.

After installation, I have notice that the mercury playback engine is
not turned on, nor do I have the option. After some online reseach, I found
that I need to update to 5.0.3 in order to get the mercury engine to work with
    the card.
I went to the adobe site and downloaded the (dvd)5.0.3 update.
After it opens and loads, i get a message that says

    Some updates failed to Install.
    Update is not applicable.

So as of now. No mercury engine. The whole reason I bought CS5.5.

    Any help?

    thanks

Update 5.0.3 is for CS5, but you have CS5.5 and there are no updates for CS5.5.
    Reinstall Premiere.

    Thanks Ann,

I have reinstalled my CS5.5, but still cannot get the Mercury Playback engine to work.
When I go to general Project settings, under video Rendering and Playback, it has Mercury Playback Engine Software Only, but grey out with no other options.

I have checked all the requirements, and my system meets them all.
    (OS 10.6.7)

How do I get the Mercury to work?

Is there something I need to do that I am not in order to get the Mercury Engine functioning?

Did you install Nvidia CUDA drivers?

Yes, as Jose says, make sure that you have the correct CUDA driver installed for your card.
