I’m upgrading to PP5.5 and HD. I’m looking at the Panasonic Intra codecs. Can you effectively edit with 7200 RPMSATA 2 drives without striping with Intra 50? What about Intra 100?

What kind of performance issues will show up using a 7200 RPM drive throughout the workflow?

Would using Sata3 7200 drives make a difference?

What about 10K Sata 2 drives?

Given that the Intra 50 and Intra 100 datarates are rather low, I would imagine that you’ll be fine on a 7200 drive. In fact, I’ve edited DVCPRO HD files off a 7200 drive for years, and those files are twice the bitrate of Intra.

Intra does have more compression, however, so your CPU and GPU power will have to be up to snuff.
