  • How to Move a Project in Premiere?

So, I was wondering what is the best way to move a project in Premiere? I back up my projects to an external drive, but I cannot simply open the project from that drive because none of the footage is linked up since it is looking for the files on my internal RAID.
My goal is to be able to transfer my current projects from my D drive (the RAID 5 setup) to an external USB drive.
I searched the forums but couldn’t find this information.

    Any instructions would be appreciated.

    Thanks

When you open the Project and it says “Where is filename.avi?”, just point it to the clip in the new location. You don’t have to do this for EVERY clip, but it may ask a couple of times for clips that are in different folders, such as Video, Audio, Renders. Once you do this, the project will open up, then be sure to SAVE so changes stick. No biggie.

How about Project– Project Manager–then select “Collect Files and Copy to New Location”.
I don’t know if this changes links to file, so you might have to re-link files from the new location, but at least this would be a good way to make sure you are getting all the files in the project copied over.

I’ll give that another try, but from what I remember after pointing Premiere to the files it asked for, it still would say “Media Offline” for the clips in my Sequence.
I capture my footage with “Scene Detect” option, so there are hundreds of separate clips, and it would be a nightmare to try to go through the sequence and link up every one.

Use the Project Manager feature to copy the project to a new drive,

Ok, I’ll try Project Manager. I’ve never used that, so it’s worth a try.
Thanks to everyone for the responses.

This ended up saving me a lot of time.
    Great suggestion!

And a great tool if you’ve started out importing every clip you thought you were going to use.
Cut my project folder in half! 😀
