Importing from FCP to Premiere CS5 not working because of markers
Hey, so I’m working on a series of webisodes with a team of editors. The editor made rough cuts, which I’m taking, exporting to XML, and then importing into Premiere CS5.
One of the editor’s files works flawlessly — he edited using NO markers on his raw video, just cut up video right in the timeline.
The other editor’s files don’t work at all, and the timelines are totally wrecked — she edited putting markers in the video files and then dragging the resulting clips onto her timeline.
For some reason the existence of these markers/clips is making it so that Premiere doesn’t understand the bin or timeline data. It has all the clips on the timeline in their correct lengths and arrangement, but the actual video/audio data linked to those clips is totally confused and is drawing from weird/random parts of the original video file that are totally wrong.
I’m wondering what might be causing this — do marker just not translate to Premiere AT ALL? Also, her markers have IN points but no OUT points — could that be confusing Premiere?
When I imported the first editor’s XML file, I get a folder in my bin that has all the source video clips and all the resources he was using and then one Sequence in the folder which holds the timeline of the episode. When I import the second editor’s XML file, there is a folder in my bin that is filled with ALL of the markers, only TWO source video files (instead of the total 6 or 7), and a sequence that is totally messed up when you watch it.
When I double click the “markers”/clips in her folder, they don’t even correspond to the markers they’re supposed to in the original video files — they’re totally messed up. If I gave these “markers” the right In/Out points in Premiere (if there’s a way to do that), might that fix my problems? Because it’s obvious that right now they don’t have the correct in/out points.
