external monitor previews
hello to all…been searching for a while now and cant seem to find an answer to my exact problem or so called hang up in Premier Pro cs5.
I am using a small 13 inch sony trinitron tv as an external preview monitor. Not my ideal choice but its what fits my budget currently. The color and picture quality are good but I am concerned about previewing the correct aspect ratio. The monitor/tv is 4:3 and my premiere project and footage are 720 x 480 DV-NTSC widescreen 16:9 at 29.97fps. The footage is all SD rendered out of after effects using the animation codec. My final output destination will be DVD. What settings should I be using in the playback settings dialog box? Should Aspect ratio conversion be set to hardware of software? Is there anyway premiere will allow me to view correct 16:9 aspect ratio on a 4:3 monitor either by cropping or letterboxing to reference the footage??
My exports are correct 16:9 widescreen when I render out…I just need to see what final output will look like on dvd….Do I need to add a filter or effect that letterboxes?? Also since this is DV footage in SD what is the correct order of fields?? display first or second field…when I select display both the image looks sharper but I understand maybe that should only be used for progressive footage and not interlaced. Any info would be great and helpful…as always this is the best place on the web for great help.
thanks
chris
