Go Pro footage with CS4
Hello Guys;
I use PP CS4 editing program and want to add footage in High Def using the Go Pro at 720p HD. Will this video fit ok on the timeline or be too big or, is it not possible to use standard video with HD ??
I am going to use the GoPro for aerial footage. Is there a better camera for this? Thanks alot.
PS I could also use PP 2, if this is the better software for mixing HD and standard video.

The GoPro creates a file that CS5 understands under the heading of “DSLR”, but anything earlier will require that the media be converted to something else.
MPEG Streamclip is a pretty effective solution…with CS3’s last updates installed or CS4, you could convert it to XDcamHDEX and run it. With CS2 (soon to be 4 versions from current) I would recommend CineForm as an intermediate, but I’m not certain there is a compatible version available any more.

Sorry, but I haven’t gotten a GoPro yet, so I can’t help you. Thats why I am asking in advance to be sure I am not making a mistake buying one to use with CS4, or even PP2. ( I use both )
And XP pro.
Maybe there is a better camera that I can attach to a plane for aerial footage? the Contour? or MiCamcorder?….any better ideas?

I have shot aerial video footage over the years using a variety of cameras, recording units and aircraft. The best camera/lens really comes down to your budget and what type of aircraft you will be using. Although fixed wing aircraft are used in some situations, rotary wing gives your far greater flexibility when “getting the shot”. In helicopters, cameras are mounted on ‘nose mounts’ and operated remotely from inside the craft, mounted in ‘door mounts’ and operated manually by the camera operator, and, most often, hand-held while hanging out of the craft. I have rented small Robinson helicopters for as little as $110/hr. and large Bell, Hughes and others for well over 1K/hr. The aforementioned mounts provide vibration damping, security and control, but are expensive and require plenty of install time(money). You can’t just attach a camera to the outside of an aircraft and expect to get usable footage. Vibration, in a variety of frequencies, is your enemy, not to mention bugs and other debris that quickly foul your lens. The ability to monitor and control your image, not to mention the ability to frame the shot, is essential – especially when it comes to “how much is this costing per hour?” and who is paying for it. Another major factor in all of this is the craft’s pilot and your ability to communicate with him/her, how and where is he willing to fly, etc. Yes, a GoPro might capture a usable shot, but be prepared for a hit or miss situation. And, yes, there are better cameras to ‘attach’ to an aircraft.

THANKS for the info. I am prepared for the hit or miss option, and I will use the camera on my own plane filming the various views from my plane, so no need to rent another aircraft.
in the range of the GoPro, what are these “other” cameras please…like the contour? or Mi Camcorder models???????
Want to stay in the $300-400.00 range.
