  Slow Motion Hack

  So I have a project that I’d like to shoot some slow motion for. Ultimately I’ll be renting a RED and shooting at 120 but I need to shoot some comps first using what I have. That would be a Sony FX1 and Adobe CS4. The final comp will be 720p.

  I’ve heard there are converters that will take the interlaced footage and separate the fields into the equivalent of 60fps. I’ll be downsizing from 1080 to 720 so I don’t mind the quality hit. Then I figure I can fudge it down a little more in AE. Or maybe you guys have some plug in or other software suggestions for me?

  Any advice for work flow or software solutions would be greatly appreciated. I know it won’t look awesome but I just need something to work with developing the look I want.

  Hi Corbin,

  Twixtor would probably be it as far as filters go. It can be used either in Premiere or After effects. The filter will actually create vector based tweeting frames. I’ve successfully slowed down footage up to 70% that way. The trick to a good result is clean frames to begin with.

  You will need to shoot progressive at a high shutter speed to avoid any motion blur and keep the camera as steady as possible, avoid fast pans or heavy hand held motion. 30P would be best.

  Also read/view the tutorials on their site or you will pull your hair out lining up footage.
