  Importing AVCHD and managing file metadata

  I am at a total loss as to how to import AVCHD files and manage their file metadata.

  If I copy the folder structure off the card, Premiere Pro CS5 can see through to the mts files that contain the video and produce xmp files, but (i) the files are not renamed as I like them and (ii) the whole thing is a total mess for any other brower, like Bridge.

  If I import the files using Bridge CS5, then Bridge grabs all the little companion files off the card and throws them into the same folder as the the mts files which contain the video. In addition, I am not sure that Premiere Pro will produce sidecar xmp files when I point it to to the morass produced by Bridge.

  Is there a proper way to import AVCHD files so that (i) they can be renamed appropriately, (ii) the numerous side files are managed properly and (iii) Premiere and Bridge can share metadata about them?

  I’m looking for an answer to this too. For my part, CS5 will create xmp sidecars for AVCHD files, but won’t let me save keyword metadata to them.
