  Premiere Pro CS5 project -> FinalCutPro

  Hi Guys!

  Hope anyone can help me with the following problem.

  Yesterday i upgraded my production premium to CS5. I did this because i need to have an workflow from CS5 to FCP. Here ‘s why:

  Our production is done by two editors. I work on CS5, the other editor works in FCP. We both work with footage coming from an XDCAM EX. The editor who is working on the FCP-set is also making the final edit. This means that all my projects have to be imported into FCP.

  Well, exporting to FCP XML from cs5 isn’t a problemn.. but transfering the footage is. I use the Premiere Project Manager to collect al the footage.. but when i try to reconnect (the xdcam mp4’s) it inside FCP it seems unsupported.

  What to do?

  So you’ve brought the XML file from Premiere TO Final Cut, and the timeline opens, etc. from what I understand. How is the footage having an issue? Is it not linking period? Are the sequences loading but not playing?

  If the sequences are loading but not playing, you may need to transcode your footage for Final Cut. XDCAM footage needs to be rewrapped into a Quicktime file… this means you’ll need the copies of the rewrapped files and you’ll need to re-link your assets in Premiere eventually.

  I’ve found two weaknesses in the Premiere/FCP workflow: They don’t like each others effects and transitions, and you always have to baby your footage for FCP to work.

  In the meanwhile i found this:

  With this FCP should be able to natively work with mp4. Would this end the transcoding to QT?

  I don’t know Final Cut enough to say, it does look promising. Even if it doesn’t work, rewrapping doesn’t take long as it’s not recompressing the footage, just sticking the video and audio streams into the MOV container. You should be able to do that with FCP’s log and transfer function.
