  • no audio playback from timeline in PPro 1.5

Hi. Two questions here and very grateful for response to either or both. It’s been a long time since I’ve used PPro 1.5, back when I used to do video production with a real camera, but just shot some quick and dirty clips with a Flip Cam and then converted them to avi so I could edit them in PPro. After importing the clip, I see the audio icon and also can hear the audio when I just play back the clip, but when I drag to timeline and either scrub, or render for playback – there is no audio at all. Anyone know how to fix?

Second thing is I used to do my editing on a big ole desktop workhorse and am now on an acer laptop that should have enough of everything to do the job, but unless I render each clip on the timeline first, playback in the monitor is choppy. Also just simple playback of the clip (not from timeline is super choppy). I remember that this version used to have real time playback without rendering, and smooth playback if you just double clicked on the clip, but neither seem to be working for me very well. Any suggestions on what settings to use to make this smoother? All help appreciated! thx.

Footage from a Flip is heavily compressed. I do not remember Pro 1.5 supporting mp4.
Run your file through Gspot and see which codec is needed for the audio.

Hi Amy. Thanks for your response. Right – PPro 1.5 DOESN’T support Mp4 – that’s why I needed to convert the Flip clips to AVI – which I was able to quite easily with a trial version of something called DoremiSoft Flip Video Converter. Worked great – BUT none of the 3 AVI options (xVid, DivX or Raw Video) allow me to hear any audio from the timeline. Again – can hear it on the avi clips in playback in PPro, and can see the audio icon – so I know it’s there, but won’t playback audio from the timeline.

    Thoughts?
    thx-

You still needs to run the file through Gspot to see which audio codec.
Xvid, Divx etc are not good avi’s to edit, just as compressed and not supported by Pro.
