  how to convert HDV to DV for export to tape.

  Hi i was just wondering what is the best workflow method for getting your HDV shot material into Premiere Pro CS5 & Editing the footage in a HDV timeline then exporting it back onto mini DV tape but in SD quality.

  what i want to know is what is the best way for retaining the maximum level of quality in SD on mini DV for broadcast.

  My workflow is currently this,
  -Capture HDV footage Via sony Z1 to Premiere PRO CS5
  -Edit in HDV 1080i50 at 1440×1080,
  -then export an avi at 720×576, DVPAL codec.
  -i then import it into a new project set to DVPAL widescreen
  -Export to Tape in DVCAM mode using SONY HVR-M15E HDV deck.
  (to get a Mini DV SD quality tape)

  And i don’t have any form of HD to SD converters such as that from Kona or AJA etc. Just My PC and the deck connected via firewire.

  Just wondering is there a better workflow out there, or is there a better way of doing it to improve the quality exported back to tape,or will it be the same.

  Here are other methods that i have tried

  -I have tried methods such as down converting HDV timeline to DV tape via I-LINK (did not work)

  -Export as a movie same as sequence/Mpeg2 Preview, HDV settings, then importing it to DVPAL timeline, resize footage to fit, then export to tape. ( issues come up with field order as HDV footage is upper and DVPAL is lower field, means i have to change the interlacing order, which sometimes gets confusing)

  Edit in HDV timeline as usual.

  Create a DV timeline in the same Project.

  Edit your HDV sequence onto your DV timeline. (load it into source viewer and then edit it to the DV timeline)

  Export per usual (will require a render).

  See if this works…

  it Should.
