Analyze speech button doesn’t work
Hello and thanks in advance for your help.
This is my first time working in CS5 and I was very excited about the potential transcription abilities of the metadata. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to be working.
My footage is 720/30, shot on a HVX300 and imported into the project from the .mxf files. I bring the clip into the source window, open up the metadata window and see a grey-out “Analyze” button that doesn’t do anything when I click on it.
Help?

This is very often because you don’t have write permission for the source files or the folder in which the files reside. The feature that analyzes speech and converts it to text works by injecting XMP metadata back into the source files or by writing the XMP metadata to an XMP sidecar file alongside the source files. If the source files or the folder that they’re in are read-only, then the Analyze button is greyed out.

Thank you Todd. Your post led me to going into the properties of the imported folders and unchecking the “read only” box and, voila! Problem fixed.
I was a bit disappointed at the accuracy of the footage once it was analyzed though. It was a series of interviews that I conducted and the translation bore little resemblance to what they said in many places. It was probably about 60% accurate. I’m sure that’s likely to do with the limits of voice recognition technology and that when that gets better, that this will be a huge time saver. Rock on, CS5!
