HDV footage
I have four hours of HDV footage shot on Cannon HV40. I captured this footage into my Final Cut Pro system which converts it to quicktime. I need to send this HDV footage to someone across country (I am on west coast_he on east)and he works on Premiere. He has no experience with FCP and I have no experience with Premiere. He does not have way to capture HDV footage or I would just send him copy of tapes.
Do you have any suggestions to how I can flow this footage out of my FCP system and effeciently, cost effectively get it into his Premiere system across country?

Unfortunately FCP has a rewrap process that is unique to FCP in that Apple saw fit to only include the decoder for that particular file structure with FCP. It is (along with several other FCP edit codecs that Apple has decided to only include with FCP), not included with the standalone QT package for Windows…OR Mac.
The footage could be exported to ProRes (the decoder is included in QT Pro for Mac/Win) or if a 9x data size difference doesn’t work for your situation, the footage should be recaptured as actual HDV native…
Perhaps your friend could rent a camcorder to recapture?

I would try an export to Motion Jpeg and send that over on an external drive. If his has a solid RAID array, you could do QT Animation.
Since I don’t know anything about his system, I would export a short segment and send it to him via YouSendIt to make sure it works out on his end.

If you have a friend or know someone with a PC maybe you could get them to capture it with a free program called HDVsplit and send him 4 13gig files via DSL or Cable internet.
