  • Removing Horizontal Banding ?

    Hi all,
I recently captured an old High-8 tape and have encountered some horizontal banding. I’m not a color correction expert so I’m not sure if this is even possible but basically I want to try to remove the banding. The banding is static along the entire tape ie. it does not scroll up or down over time. Using Premiere PRO CS5 and the 3 way color corrector, I have managed to remove the banding however I had to lose the color to do it:) All I did was set the output to “Luma” in order to accomplish this but of course I’d rather have the color back.

Below are some before and after frame grabs. If anyone has any suggestions, I’d sure appreciate them.

Find a playback unit in better shape.

Sorry, hate to be the bearer of bad news.

Thanks for gettign back to me. The playback unit plays every other tape just fine so I figured it was the tape. Aren’t there any tricks to at least mimize this effect?

I would think that this is an issue with the camera. Try finding a Hi8 cleaning tape, or another Hi8 camcorder.

Not much can be done without re-capturing.

If it’s that tape only you may be stuck with it.
