  Export Effects to FCP

  Hi there

  I have a question about Premiere Pro feature: “Export > Final Cut Pro XML”. After making a test, I got errors:
  video track 1: Effect on Clip not translated.
  video track 1: Effect on Clip not translated.
  Is there any way to export a prproj with any of basic color correction effects to Final Cut Pro?

  I am co-operating with an FCP video editor, and apart from editing, a basic white balance and exposure changes are necessary to do in Premiere Pro.

  XML, while better than EDL is pretty basic translation of sequence information.

  Consider that Color correction usually happens in a filter.
  As opposed to something like scale, position, rotation and opacity which are attributes of the clips themselves.

  So in that sense you’d need to start cross translating filters….not impossible, but a bit more of a mountain to climb….code wise

  so that’s probably why you are not seeing it in the translation, (yet?)

  If you want to pass color corrected clips….maybe take the step creating color corrected source and then using that as the basis of the edit? that way if you partner is using the same source you’ll both be seeing the same thing.

  not ideal….but workable…

  Thanks for your tip, Alex
  but there’s 4-5 hours of raw material consisting of 200-300 clips – it would be very time consuming to do this route.
  Currently we decided, that my parther will do the CC.

  In future maybe I will move to FCP or my partner will install PremierePro on his Mac and will render the Sequence from PremierePro/FCP, but that’s involves additional compression and free space

  Hey Steven…

  I don’t know all the details of what you are trying to accomplish…

  but your conclusion leads me to believe you could think of XML this way:

  one master media set (not color corrected)

  2 different editing platforms.

  Choose one of those to editing platforms for finishing (grading, final audio, etc)

  Divide the work.

  One does offline and can pass the XML to the other

  where it can be conformed and finished.

  I guess the simpler way to say that is one box is only for offline and the other is for offline and online.

  is that sort of the conclusion you came to?

  It’s close, Alex, but not exactly

  The work is divided, but not by type of work – by material – first half is done by my partner in FCP, the other – by me – is in Premiere Pro. It’s different kind of material but have to be joined in the end.

  Everything would be OK, if at least RGB Curves or Levels or any third party like Bullet’s Colorista would be converted from prproj xml to fcp xml. Also it would be great if the Constant Power and Exponential Fade would be converted to FCP curves, but that is more complicated. Btw, audio transitions are one of the things my partner likes in Premiere Pro. Currently he draws curves, which is time consuming.

  So, the simplest way is to move to Mac’s FCP (because my partner will not edit in Premiere Pro), that will be done next year.

  Currently he will have to CC in FCP

  So, after few months of cooperation, editing in Premiere Pro then exporting XML, and doing CC and Audio in FCP – finally I have installed Macintosh on a PC, so that I can do all of the work.
  But I don’t see a Curves filter in FCP like RGB Curves in Premiere Pro. It’s very convenient and I got used to RGB Curves. Am I have to install a Plug-in like Red Giant Colorista II?
