I have a subject shot against a flat colored background and wd like to see if putting a “spotlight” on that background gives it a little more depth. I tried using the AE documentation to do this and, following their directions, created a light layer and set up my spotlight where and how I wanted it to “shine,” made that an adjustment layer and then made the video clip on the layer below it a 3d layer. However the spotlight does not show up on the video clip–it only appears by itself. What am I doing wrong? All help appreciated.
    thanks-

Everything you’ve done sounds okay, although the light layer doesn’t necessarily need to be an adjustment layer. Are you sure the spotlight is pointed at your 3D layer? Lights can be a bit tricky to position at first. Maybe you could show us a screenshot which might help…

Thanks for the response John. What do you mean by “Are you sure the spotlight is pointed at your 3D layer?”

    thanks-

Well a spotlight has point of interest which you can drag around to change the direction of the light, is that pointed at your layer? If you like you can email me the project file (without the footage) and I can take a look (john.dickinson@foxtel.com.au)
