  progressive mpeg2 revisited

  This time last year, we created a hundred or so MPEG2 files, multiplexed with audio, progressive, from NTSC DV AVI source, for playout on projectors in large meeting rooms. This was done using Media Encoder CS4.

  Progressive video files were selected after tests done by the audiovisual crew comparing the various file format options.

  The problem we were having was that graphics got the jaggies once we selected Progressive for the fields.

  A solution provided by Mike Velte was to select the “Use Maximum Render Quality” setting from the hidden dialog box in the media encoder settings.

  This solved the problem, the mpeg2 files looked beautiful and the meeting was a great success.

  Fast forward to this year – same problem, however the Maximum Render setting does not help and the resulting MPEG2 files are as jagged as ever.

  Has something changed with an update to Media Encoder in the past 12 months that could be the culprit?

  Sorenson Squeeze produces better results, however it does not work as seamlessly with premiere, and an AVI needs to be rendered first.
