Problem with AVI/ Importing
This feels like the millionith problem I’ve had with this software.
For some reason, the imported in premiere pro has stopped working correctly. I was making a project and the last file I need to import will not work. it is an original mp4 file, that I convert to avi and import to premiere pro. Every other file I did the same thing with worked fine. But it will not import any file I filmed today for some reason. What happens is it imports the avi file, seems to recognise it as a avi file but attachs something similar to an audio tag instead of a video tag. Then when I play it in the preview, or on the timeline it plays as if its a photo, using the first frame of the video.
Earlier on today the software crashed twice due to an “remote importer module” error.
Can anyone help?

Hi Jennifer,
What version of Premiere? Is it possible that you are running out of RAM?
What are you using to convert to AVI?

I use prism to convert to avi. The converted video plays fine in the vlc player.
I don’t think its a RAM issue.

I honestly never heard of Prism, but my guess is it is the culprit. I would take a look at tmpgexpress, see if the trial creates files that work for you. VLC will play just just about anything you thow at it (that’s why we love it) but that means nothing in terms of Premiere compatibility. Do you know what type of avi you are converting to. Full frames, uncompressed would be the way to go, although that means using fast drives.

You were right, it was Prism. I didn’t realise because it had worked for ages before the other day, I have no idea why it decided to stop.
Do you know if theres a freeware that would do the same job as TMPG express?
