  • What system should I buy?

    Hi People,

I have a question, I’m planning on buying adobe premiere Pro CS5 and a new edittingsystem with it. I have a budget to work with so my new PC can only cost up to 1250,- euro max.

I found a system for a good price, but since I have no knowledge of hardware what so ever I’m not sure if this machine is up for the job.

The PC i’m refering to is a:

    Athlon Quad-core 9950 (2600 mhz) processor
    4 GB ram (Kingston)
    NVida 7900GT
    MSI K9A2 Platinum motherboard

Can anyone give me some advice? It is very important that it’s able to run adobe premiere pro cs5.

    Thanks for your time!

    Kind regards,

    Kurt Steiner

I would go with an i7 processor (maybe the 930) as you get hyperthreading.

On HT enabled programs, you can extra virtual cores or threads. As in the quad-thread just turned into an 8-thread. Threads are kinda like cores. They allow multiple tasks. A single core can perform one task only, but if it has 2 threads it can do up to 2 tasks.

AMD does not have hyperthreading, as Intel has patented it. So whatever the core count on an AMD is…that is the thread count. The core i7 series by intel is amazing, as it boosts by having a possible 8 threads (depending on model)!

So, I suggest a Core i7 930, 6-8 gigs of ram (In previous version of premiere I have gone over 4 gigs easy…but I have not had the issue with CS5 yet..so this is up to you). I suggest the ram be DDR3 133mhz or 1600mhz, which means you need a DDR3 board.

Those are boards that support DDR3 (1333mhz and 1600mhz) as well as in i7 (that takes the 1366 socket).

As far as video card…stay with nvidia. I would recommend something a little more powerful though, depending on the scale of your video you are working with.

Thanks Alex, that was pretty clear to me, great advice! A friend of mine suggested the same last night, so I think I’m gonna go with it 🙂

Thanks again and I wish you all the best.

    Kind regards,

It looks like it should be a fine setup.

You will get just a slight boost in performance (For only a couple bucks more) if you get the 9800 GTX+ (“gtx+” makes all the difference).

You should have enough headroom with that power supply. You should be all set. Just make sure you ram is compatible with the motherboard(as in, make sure your motherboard doesn’t hate your ram model :P).
