Image Stabilizer
I know this has been covered before but it seems to be a while since the last inquiry that I could find.
What is available for an image stabilizer that will work inside Premiere Pro CS4+ on a Mac? I’ve found a couple of apps that work outside of Premiere, like iStabilize, or, of course, AE. But I’d like to use something right in Premiere in the individual clips.
I have AE, and I’m OK user for a part timer, but I have a lot of panning shots and they’re just not worth the trouble
Has anybody used this New Blue stabilizer? I just found them on a web search but I’ve never heard of this company before.
I’m just a corporate guy, I tape events for internal viewing sometimes. Not trying to do anything perfect or Hollywood quality. Just don’t want people barfing at their desks.

I’d say try to go for Boris Optical Stabilizer, it works in Premiere and AE (although somewhat better in AE, but I was stabilizing racecar footage, so your mileage may vary). To be honest, I don’t know of too many other plugins.

If you have Production Premium you will have Mocha.

I don’t think Prodad has a mac version only windows -
Magic Bullet Steady has done a good jobb for me in After Effects and Final Cut Pro but it seems NOT to have support for Premier. Looking at Redgiantsoftware’s site they state “Not Available for CS5” so might not be the best horse to bet on.

Lock & Load works great in Final Cut Pro and is fast. I thought they where planning an AE-version and thus perhaps a Premier one but seems not so.. Again, doesn’t hurt to ask them

Going from Lock & Load’s site they compare them selves to Bolris Optical Stablaizer which seems to be available for all host-apps out there, both Mac and Windows. I personally have zero experience with it however.

As someone pointed out you should use Mocha for stabilization also given this is a much more time consuming way of doing things, you gain a lot of control from going that route.

Thanks for the advice everyone.
I really want to stay in Premiere as there are bunches of little clips, many of which are panning shots or walking through crowds or that kind of thing. I’m sure Mocha does a dynamite job but for this project I require speed over quality.
I’ll probably go with the Boris plugin over the New Blue as I already know that everybody loves Boris and New Blue doesn’t seem to have the same reputation.

I’d recommend you try a few different trail-versions if you can. These types of plugins can vary a lot in quality and can also have different stregths. Some faster, some slower, some more precise and so forth.

So I’ve downloaded the trial versions of both Boris Optical Stabilizer and New Blue Stabilizer. There’s some serious stability issues it seems. It’s very likely user error. I have no idea how to properly set up my computer and preferences to keep most of this stuff running smoothly. I suppose I’ll learn.
The New Blue Stabilizer will crash Premiere by just dropping the filter on any clip. If I am occasionally successful at adding the filter, any change, render, or save will bring a crash.
Boris Optical Stabilizer is a little touchy, but as long as I tweak the settings in precisely the right order, it has beautiful results.

Unless someone can confirm otherwise….
Boris Optical Stabalizer doesn’t work in PPro.
It was listed on their site. But upon trying the demo, it displays a message that it doesn’t work in PPro and should be used via AE.
I talked to them about it at the time, and it had something to do with PPro not having the calls to read ahead necessary to create the pixel interpolation like they can do in AE.
