I recently completed a complex, multi-cam greenscreen HD project in CS4. I have used Keylight in AE with excellent results in the past, but the magnitude of this project made using a separate app for keying and renders out to uncompressed eat up a lot of time (and space) in post. Then I hear that Ultra is back and included in CS5. Has anyone been using it since installing CS5? Is it pretty much like the old Ultra from Serious Magic? How effective is it in comparison to Keylight in AE?

One of the biggest issues with keying in Premiere is that there aren’t any real masking capabilities.

Ultra has very few settings compared to Keylight, and is really meant for a quick key. It certainly is a great improvement over the old Premiere Keyer, but if you need professional keying, you’ll need at least keylight or Primatte.

I have heard people saying they pulled great keys with Ultra alone, I’d love to see them, and at full motion and resolution…
